Happy Easter! What a great Easter celebration we had in Church! There are so many people to thank for all that was done to make our Masses so beautiful. Thank you to Katie Alexander and Lucy Tobben for all they did to organize the music, musicians, and singers to help with our worship. Thanks to Nancy Struckhoff and her team of volunteers who decorated so nicely. Thank you to Fr. Tony, our Deacons, our Lectors, and all who served so well during the Holy Week and Easter liturgies. And thank you to all who prayed along with us in Church, in our overflow areas, and via livestream.
It sure seemed like Lent was a whirlwind this year! I feel like it was a good Lent for our Parish. Lots of confessions were heard. Many people took advantage of the opportunity for daily Mass. Sunday Mass attendance increased. Our Sunday Evening Prayer and Chat with the Priests was great. Thanks for anything you did from spending some extra time in prayer to serving others during the Season of Lent. It helps to refresh our Parish Family, reconnect us with our mission, and recommit to being the Family of God we are called to be in our little corner of the world.
As vaccination rates go up, some may feel more comfortable with coming to Church. While we likely won’t be dealing with the size of crowds like on Easter Sunday, we still need to be vigilant and work to keep ourselves and each other safe. Please continue to wear masks, watch your distance, and wash/sanitize your hands. We will continue to have the Mass broadcast live into the Choir Room and, if necessary, in another room in Jesuit Hall to accommodate our crowds. It is wonderful to have people back in Church!
We are in the midst of working on some renovations for the Rectory. Many of you may remember back in the mid to late 90’s when the main floor was remodeled. It will remain substantially the same as they did a beautiful job with it, however we are at the point where the carpet is now close to 25 years old and the wallpaper was separating at the seams and pulling off the walls. Fr. Tony and I started the wallpaper removal during our quarantine back in October and, with the help of some great volunteers, the paper is now off of the walls. We plan to paint, replace flooring, and do some other minor refreshers over the coming weeks and maybe months. We are blessed that we have received a generous gift that the donor has requested go toward paying for these rectory renovations, so we don’t anticipate having to touch our parish savings. Always good news! I wanted to let you know and keep you informed. Thanks for all you do to support our parish. Fr. Tony and I love this parish house and want to preserve it for generations of priests who will live here. Hopefully soon we can have a party in person at the rectory!
Great news! A few weeks ago we held the Diaper Drive sponsored by the Respect Life Apostolate and the Office of the Permanent Diaconate of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Our Parish collected 6252 diapers and 600 wipes for the Pregnancy Assistance Center! We are blessed in our community by the work of the Pregnancy Assistance Center and by your generous support. Thank you!
I also wanted to pass along that I ran into Fr. Jack Costello on Holy Thursday. He looks good and said he is feeling good! He thanked me for all of the prayers and support from Borgia. And he said he is so touched by the cards and notes he has received from many of you. Thank you for your care for Fr. Jack and for taking the time to pray for him and/or send him a note of support. You’re the best!!
