Fr. Mike's Message - 08/15/2021

Dear Parish Family,

Happy Feast of the Assumption of Mary!  We get the chance to celebrate this Feast on a Sunday since it is a Solemnity.  Solemnities, or solemn feasts, are celebrated even on Sundays to give us an opportunity to celebrate them.  In this case, we celebrate the Assumption of Mary, body and soul, into heaven.  Where Mary has gone, we hope to follow.  Let us do our best to imitate her faith and her “yes” to God to do His will in all things.  A tall order, to be sure, but God always gives us what we need to do what He calls us to do.  Let’s pray for each other as we strive to live according to God’s will.

This week we welcome our students back to school!  Our faculty and staff have been hard at work preparing for this school year...and we are ready!  We are blessed with a great faculty and staff, a wonderful student body, and supportive parishioners that make having a great school possible.  Thank you for your ongoing support of St. Francis Borgia Grade School.  Our Borgia High School also begins this week.  And our college students are heading back to class as well.  From the looks of it, all are ready for a good start to the school year.  Join me in praying for a good, safe, and productive year for all of our students.

Join us this Thursday evening for Thirsty Third Thursday!  As always, we are hoping to have a laid back, informal opportunity to be together and enjoy each other’s company.  Bring a lawn chair, your favorite drink, maybe a snack to share, and even your favorite yard game.  Come anytime after 6:00 and claim your spot on the lawn in the courtyard behind the rectory.  We will even show off the progress to date inside the rectory.  It’s looking beautiful, though it's still a work in progress.  We are so grateful to the folks who made this renovation possible through their gifts donated for this specific purpose.

On Sunday, September 12th, we will celebrate our annual SFB Parish Fall Festival right here on our grounds.  We will have fun activities for all ages.  Invite your friends, neighbors, family members, and anyone you can think of to join us for this great event.  We will have plenty of outdoor seating for the awesome meal as well as the option for carry-out.  This will be different this year due to the ongoing issues around Covid, but it will still be fantastic!  Our Fall Festival committee is busy fine tuning the details for the parish festival happening next month.  Signups will be underway soon to fill the many spots needed to make this event a success.  Watch your email for more information!  As always, we appreciate your support and involvement, and we count on your help to make this year’s fall festival a success.  Thanks for whatever you can do to help!!
