This weekend we will be taking up a special collection for the relief efforts in Haiti following the disastrous earthquake. Archbishop Rozanski is asking that every parish in the Archdiocese join with parishes across the country in taking up a collection. Here is part of the letter that Archbishop Rozanski wrote to the priests:
“The funds collected in this special appeal will become part of the Bishops Emergency Disaster Fund and will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA and/or Catholic Relief Services, the office relief agencies of the U.S. Catholic Church. We join other dioceses across the country in this response for support to help with water, food, shelter, and medical care, along with long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts. The funds will be distributed where they are most needed.
As Archbishop Gomez shared in the USCCB appeal, ‘we recognize that parish and diocesan activities have been severely impacted by COVID-19 and the local capacity for fund-raising may be more challenging than with past emergency collections. However, we know people are generous in times of need. If we all give a little, it can make a huge difference’.”
Thanks for any financial and prayerful support you can offer to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. We will have envelopes in the pews that you can drop into the collection basket or you can bring your donation to the Parish Office. Please note on the envelope and/or check that it is for the collection for Haiti. You can make your check payable to St. Francis Borgia Parish.
Fr. Tony has been getting into the groove of teaching a class of Sophomores at our Borgia High School. He’s doing great and enjoying it a lot. As I’ve mentioned before, we are both going to try to be more present to the high school students and at their activities as much as possible while trying to keep up our presence in our Grade School and, of course, with our other parish ministries. If you need anything from either of us, please don’t hesitate to call or email us. Things are busy as usual, but we both feel so blessed to be here in this parish and in this community!
On Sunday, September 12th, we will celebrate our annual SFB Parish Fall Festival right here on our grounds. We will have fun activities for all ages. Invite your friends, neighbors, family members, and anyone you can think of to join us for this great event. We will have plenty of outdoor seating for the awesome meal as well as the option for carry-out. This will be different this year due to the ongoing issues around Covid, but it will still be fantastic!
Our Fall Festival committee is busy fine tuning the details for the parish festival happening next month. Thank you to all who have signed up so far! We still need plenty of volunteers. If you have not yet signed up to volunteer, please do so soon. You can sign up at this link: https://signup.com/go/OGTDuon. As always, we appreciate your support and involvement, and we count on your help to make this year’s fall festival a success. Thanks for whatever you can do to help!!
As we continue to deal with the challenges of Covid-19 and the variants that are out there, thank you for your continued efforts to care for yourselves and each other. We are grateful for having good crowds at Mass and for the wonderful experience of our lively worship at Mass. However, if you are sick or experiencing any symptoms of Covid, please do not come to Church until those symptoms have passed. I appreciate your cooperation with this.
Next weekend is Labor Day weekend. Enjoy the unofficial end of summer holiday weekend. Be safe.
Have a blessed week! Thanks for who you are and what you do.
