With all of the political discord we heard during the election season, with all of the agreements and disagreements that people shared, it is now time to turn the page. At the time of writing this, I do not know any of the results of the election. I am reminded, though, of a reflection shared by Archbishop Rozanski recently in the
St. Louis Review in which he stated that once the election is over, Jesus Christ will still be our Lord and Savior and we will continue to be called to embrace His mission. No one candidate embodies everything that we hold dear as a Church, so no matter who wins an election, we still have work to do to bring Jesus’ message to the world as we confront the issues of our time. Well said, Archbishop! Let’s all recommit to doing the work of discipleship and taking our direction from the Lord Jesus as we go about our lives as His followers.
Welcome, Bishop Rivituso! This Thursday, November 12th, we will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our 8th grade students in SFB Grade School and PSR. Due to restrictions in place and out of concern for everyone’s health and safety, attendance is limited to the 8th grade confirmandi, their parents, and their sponsors. If you’d like to tune in, we will be livestreaming this event on our Facebook account which can be accessed at this link:
https://www.facebook.com/borgiaparish. Please pray for our young men and women who will receive the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday evening.
With the current trends in Covid-19 cases in our area and around the St. Louis area, I want to remind everyone and once again request that
masks be worn when in Church. You may feel like you don’t need to wear one, but I would ask you to put yourselves in the shoes of those who may be more vulnerable to this disease and consider that it might make them feel more comfortable to see you in a mask. As we have all heard over and over again, please wash your hands frequently, sanitize upon entering and leaving Church, wear your masks, and keep a safe distance between you and others who are not of your household. It’s the best chance we have of slowing the spread of this virus. If we practice these helpful things, Church can be a relatively safe place to be. Let’s do our part to keep it that way!
Having gone through a bout with Covid-19, I can tell you first hand that it is totally unsettling to receive the news of the diagnosis and it can really knock you down health-wise. Out of Christian charity, let’s all do our part to not spread this disease especially to those who might be vulnerable due to their health conditions. And always remember, we can be carrying this virus and not know it which is why it’s helpful to take the proper precautions. Thanks for your consideration of this and your care for each other. This virus can do a lot, but it can’t break our spirit as the Family of God here at St. Francis Borgia Parish.
