It is my deepest desire for our school community to develop a greater love, appreciation and understanding of the Mass. Starting with our staff, we will look at ways to foster the understanding and encourage participation.
What does the notion of active participation mean? This week’s message will address the idea of
interior participation: The interior participation of all of the powers of the soul in the mystery of Christ’s sacrificial love. Participation, in the first place, is something interior, it means that your mind and heart are awake, alert and engaged. This seems to be a harder sell for our older kids. It is interesting to speak with our younger students, they understand the need to follow the readings and words of the Mass and try to internalize what is being said. They sing along. We work very hard to encourage our kids to read along during the Liturgy of the Word and other portions of the Mass. What is being said? How does it pertain to my life? What lessons can be learned? How can this strengthen my personal relationship with God?
We believe as a Church that the liturgy is the source and summit of what we believe. It is incumbent of our staff and our parents to actively promote an understanding of the liturgy. We understand the importance of modeling and encouraging our students full participation. I know I speak on behalf of the St. Francis Borgia Grade School Staff when I say we accept this challenge!
