Today, we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus. It is also a time for us to reflect on what our baptism means to us. For Baptism, like Confirmation, a name is chosen of a saint for whom the person can idealize in their life. Confirmation does this because there is an expectation of the Church for selecting Confirmation names. So often, very litile time and consideration is given in reflecting on a saint’s name that the baptismal name is used.
Baptism makes us children of God and takes away Original Sin. Often times, we reflect on the positive of us becoming children of God. We are to live in the dignity and relationship with the Lord. Baptism is also a way in which a person will carry out their profession of faith through a particular Christian Church; in our case, the Catholic Church.
May we use this time of our journey to the Kingdom of God, which Jesus has given us, by living the life which God desires and establish our own personal relationship with Jesus Christ, our Savior.
