People have shared stories with me about what it was like to start a new high school as a regional school, not directly connected to the parish. It was not an overwhelming decision. People fought about it, their pledges, and refused to send their youth there. Today everyone boasts about St. Francis Borgia Regional High School on what a great institution and tradition it is.
I have also heard the story of the splitting of St. Francis Borgia Parish and the beginning of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Those who lived in the new boundaries of Our Lady of Lourdes were required to join the parish and send their children to their new school. I am sure it had to be hard for seventh graders to leave St. Francis Borgia Grade School and graduate from Our Lady of Lourdes the next year.
Change is hard and it does cause a disturbance in people’s lives. People will vote with their feet and their pocket books. We sometimes forget that we are the Catholic Church and not just a parish. With the moving of Fr. Buehler, it calls to mind that we are a universal Church, which means sometimes that we sacrifice for the larger Church.
As I have mentioned previously, there has been no final decision about the scenarios which were presented. Let us pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us at this time and that we listen to what the Lord is calling us to be and do.
Thanks for all you do!
