We have been asked by the Washington Steering Committee to pray for them as they continue to meet. They have heard the results from the Town Hall meetings and they value your responses. They are meeting and working together so that there can be more cooperation from the parishes and schools in the future. I will let you know more when I receive something from them.
Rumors can do a lot of damage and can lead people to false presumptions. There is a rumor being told that St. Francis Borgia has money problems. I just met last week with our finance committee and they discussed this very issue. After going through the budget and the current status of the parish, the question was asked “do you think that we have money problems?” They responded “NO”.
Recently, I heard on the news when the government was on a partial shut down, many people did not have enough money to pay their bills for rent or to make their house payments due to not receiving their paychecks. The Archdiocese requests that we have enough surplus on hand for at least three months of expenses in case of an emergency. We have more than three months worth. In addition, we have three different endowments: Parish, School and Cemetery, and if added up, its well over a million dollars.
As I write this today, very few people attended Mass last weekend because of the ice. However, our parishioners either make up their collection the next week or are on our electronic offering.
We have a very generous parish who support our mission. We are very stable and you can ask any of members on the finance committee: Dave Politte, Tom Kimminau, Sam Unnerstall, Mary Lynn Steffens, Jackie Bruns, Phil Rosloniec and Mike Gillen.
