As the Chaplain for Father Seisl Council #1121, I receive information and attend all the meetings of the Council, which is on the second Tuesday of the month at the KC Hall. There is a new ceremony for induction into the Knights of Columbus that has been established and a good possibility that it will be performed in Church and open to the public. This replace the old ceremonies that were performed in private.
One of the aspects which I thought was an improvement is that of the questions asked. The Knights of Columbus has always asked the Catholic Gentle Man, “Are you a Practical Catholic according to what the Catholic Church teaches?” It now goes further to ask, “to participate in its sacramental life, especially through the attendance at Sunday Mass?” The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic organization for Catholic Men and it is expected that its members are attending Sunday Mass.
(CC2177) The Sunday celebration of the Lord's Day and his Eucharist is at the heart of the Church's life. "Sunday is the day on which the paschal mystery is celebrated in light of the apostolic tradition and is to be observed as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal Church."
"Also to be observed are the day of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Epiphany, the Ascension of Christ, the feast of the Body and Blood of Christi, the feast of Mary the Mother of God, her Immaculate Conception, her Assumption, the feast of Saint Joseph, the feast of the Apostles Saints Peter and Paul, and the feast of All Saints." (CATHOLIC CATECHISM)
The Bishops of USA have decided the Holy Days for us are: Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Feast of Mary the Mother of God, her Immaculate Conception, her Assumption and the feasts of All Saints. We also celebrate the Epiphany, Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, and the Ascension on Sundays. The feast of St. Joseph and the Feasts of the Apostles, Saints Peter and Paul, are celebrated as Holy Days in the USA.
