I want to thank Kyra Gulledge, Erin Lause, Jane Maune and Linda Pahl for all their work with our young people who received their First Holy Communion yesterday, Saturday, April 13. The formation of these young people is so important because it is the beginning of their sacramental life of their frequent reception of Holy Communion every weekend.
More definitely, now is the obligation of their parents or guardians to bring them weekly to the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist with the faithful of the parish. The responsibility is primarily on their parents, because in most part, these young people cannot get to church by themselves. The Catechism of the Church reminds us that it is a serious obligation to be at Eucharist on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation, of which there are five.
This is also time for each of us to reflect on the privilege we have to receive the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. We are the only Christian church who offers Holy Communion daily. It is an honor for us to have such a great opportunity in our lives. Let us never take it for granted. It is truly a treasure of our faith and Church. Jesus wanted to give us something after His Ascension, thus He gave us Himself.
