I want to express a special word of thanks to Fr. Jim Theby, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. He has been most gracious in allowing us to have funerals in his church during the renovation of our church. He has been physically there to help and assist me. He has been most gracious and kind. We have given families the option of the third floor of Jesuit Hall during the week and on Saturdays in our church with the scaffolding, then OLL church is if it available. Construction in a church when there are funerals is challenging. We did plan ahead for weddings and when the church could be used. Baptisms and especially funerals are more difficult to predict. Thank you for your understanding and patience during our renovation.
I want to thank you again for your contributions to the Annual Catholic Appeal. If you have not turned your pledge card in yet, there is still time to do so. The schedule from the Archdiocese will include a second mailing in the beginning of August, and then a follow up phone call in late August and September, if you have not responded. Thus, if it would be very helpful to turn your card back in even if you cannot give or do not plan on giving. It would save expense and time.
Last weekend we celebrated Independence Day. It is a time to be proud of our country and what our country stands for. We are all citizens of our country, and we are imperfect beings because of original sin. It is true by baptism that sin was taken away, but the effects of that sin still stays with us in this life. No matter who we honor in our country, there was sin that was committed by them. We are an imperfect society as we are an imperfect Church, because we are all sinners. Let us pray for the grace to do what God has created us to be in His image and likeness. Let us always strive to be better and never be complacent of who we are and what we are. Let us pray for our country as imperfect as it is, but let us do our part to make it better.
Thanks for your support and patience during this time.
