This weekend we welcome Fr. Dennis Callan, SVD, a Divine Word Missionary. Fr. Dennis is visiting us as part of the Archdiocesan Mission Appeal that happens each year in every parish of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Here’s an excerpt from the website of the Divine Word Missionaries that helps to give us a glimpse of the mission of these Divine Word Missionaries: “Today, 5,965 Divine Word Missionaries in 79 countries continue the work of Saint Arnold Janssen by bringing humanitarian services and the Word of God to those in need.
In a world that is divided by cultural, social, and religious differences, Divine Word Missionaries are dedicated to encouraging all people to open their hearts and share in God’s love. All people in all places are included in God’s plan, and we value their lives and diversity.” Our missionary priests, brothers, sisters, and lay people serve an important role in our Church on behalf of all of us as they bring the Good News of Jesus to people throughout the world. Our prayerful and financial support is integral to them as they carry out this work. Please offer a hearty Borgia welcome to Fr. Dennis!
Important reminder for all who serve as Lectors, Ushers/Greeters, and Eucharistic Ministers: At our meeting we also discussed the importance of hosting an evening of renewal for our Liturgical Ministers and those who might be interested in serving in the capacity of a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, or Usher/Greeter. We will host these gatherings on Monday, July 11th and Tuesday, July 19th at 7:00 p.m. Each evening will include some time for prayer, a review of procedures, and an opportunity for questions followed by some time for fellowship. If you are involved in a Liturgical ministry or want to be, please plan to attend one of these evenings.
This week Washington Police Chief Ed Menefee will retire after 42 years of service to our community. Let’s offer a prayer of thanks for the Chief and we hope he enjoys his retirement. We also pray for Chief Armstrong who takes the reins and for all who serve in the ranks of the Washington Police Department. We are grateful for their service to us. Chief Menefee, thank you for your selfless service to the citizens of Washington.
As a reminder, Fr. Tony is in Springfield for the Steubenville Conference this weekend with a group of high school students and chaperones. Pray for a great retreat experience for them and for safe travels.
Have a great week! Thanks for all you do to support our Parish family.
