It is so good to have the
scaffolding down and the beautiful, new ceiling unveiled in full! As I mentioned before, we were able to incorporate some of the patterns and colors from the windows to bring some consistency to the designs in church. The names of the Apostles have been added below their images. The seal of the Archdiocese and the symbol of the Jesuit Order were also added which speak to our identity as a parish of the Archdiocese and honor our Patron Saint who was a member of the early Jesuits. Take some time and reflect on these images which draw our attention to the Apostles and their mission of being sent to spread God’s word, the mission which we are all called to share.
Congratulations to our new First Communicants! We had two wonderful celebrations of First Communion last Sunday! So many people worked hard to make it so nice. I really want to thank our Director of Religious Education and PSR Director, Mrs. Kyra Gulledge, our Principal, Mrs. Linda Pahl, our teachers in school and PSR, Mrs. Jane Maune, Mrs. Kathy Haddox, Mrs. Erin Lause, and Ms. Lauren Emory. Thanks to Lucy Tobben and Katie Alexander for the fine job with leading the music and singing. Thanks to Fr. Tony for taking care of many details during the day of the celebrations as well as the time he has spent working with the students. We were blessed to have Cardinal Tim Dolan and Fr. Joe Wormek join us. It was a great day for St. Francis last Sunday!
All are invited to join in the
Rosary March and Prayer Service today (Sunday) beginning at 1:30. Please see the announcement from Deacon Leon in this bulletin for more details.
Normally I would be inviting you to join us this Thursday for our monthly
Thirsty Third Thursday. While we hate to do this, we think it’s in everyone’s best interest to
suspend these gatherings
for a while. With the uptick in Covid cases locally, and with the City of Washington suspending or limiting some events in the City, we want to do our part to help. Thanks for your understanding. We will get back to having these fun gatherings as soon as possible. For now, I would invite all of us to reach out by phone or with a note to someone we know who might be alone or feeling lonely and let them know we are thinking about and praying for them. We have a close knit community here at Borgia and in Washington and we won’t let this virus take that away. Thanks for anything you can do to reach out to let someone know you care.
Next Sunday, we will have our
Annual Sausage Supper from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. This year we will be serving our meals drive-through so there will be no inside dining in the cafeteria. Come on by and get some good sausage and enjoy a dinner you don’t have to cook! Hope to see you next Sunday.
Fr. Tony is away this week on retreat. Please say a prayer for him that he enjoys some much needed time away. He has promised to pray for us while he follows the Lord’s invitation to “come out of the way and rest a little.”
Thanks for all the support you give to Fr. Tony and me as your priests. We often discuss how blessed we are to be here.
