Fr. Joe has been enjoying his vacation in New Zealand. He reached his destination safely. We wish him a happy and relaxing time in New Zealand.
I remember the words of the hymn,
“The world stands in need of liberation my Lord,
The world stands in need of liberation my Lord,
it still has to learn to love,
the dumb and the deaf, the blind and the lame,
all need to feel your healing touch.
There are those who have eyes who refuse to see
the inhumanity to men,
there are those who have ears but refuse to hear
the cries of men in agony”.
Today in the midst of all confusion and insensitivity in the world and in our country, we realize the world stands in need of liberation that truly comes only from Jesus. Today we are challenged to see the events not from ideological perspectives, but through the lens of the Gospel.
Every ideology has to be looked at it and evaluated from the Gospel stand point. When we look at the world through the Gospel lens, we see the truth of humanity’s condition…. that we are sinful. The Gospel lens shows that we are in need of a liberation that comes from Jesus.
We see the fallout of sin in people’s lives, all the pain, sorrow and confusion. It is not a moment of desperation but a realization that God is not an optional extra. He is the essential oxygen for the very survival of each of us. Political ideologies are not our saviors. Jesus is the Savior. It is in Him that we have rest, clarity and hope.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
(Matthew 11:28).
