What is the role of a sponsor or godparent in the Church today? Many of you probably have been asked to be a godparent at Baptism or a sponsor for Confirmation. It is more than a task for one to be present at the celebration of the sacrament. It is life-long commitment to be instrumental in a person’s spiritual life and growth. When was the last time that you spoke with the person that you were a godparent or sponsor over? Do you know if they are active in the Church and are receiving sacraments?
You hear the word Evangelization these days. Its meaning is the sharing of your faith life with others. How well do we share? Why do we come week in and week out to Mass on the weekends? Is it only because it is expected or do you receive some benefit or grace which you need in your daily life? How is your prayer life? Are you able to help others and to show them the benefits daily prayer has in your life?
Faith is more than just attending Mass on Sunday. It is a life long journey to the Kingdom of God. The Eucharist (Body and Blood of Jesus) is food for that journey. I always say, “Do you want to spend an eternity with a God that you do not know?”
Religion is a way to establish a relationship with God who is our Father, Jesus who is our brother and the Holy Spirit who is our companion.
Thanks for all you do to make the Risen Lord known in our community.
