Well, this year our Lenten and Easter season has some interesting dates which our society notes.
Ash Wednesday is on Valentine’s Day and
Easter Sunday is on April 1 which has been called April Fool’s Day.
Valentine’s Day is a day which our society celebrates and commercializes with cards, flowers, candies, jewelry, etc. to be sold and given to a love one. It is a day to express and appreciate love. How appropriate that we celebrate the start of the season of Lent with sacrifice and penance to prepare ourselves for the great act of love of Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. Love is about sacrificing for another. Love is not about receiving, but about giving. Let us remember on Ash Wednesday, the greatest gift of all is the love of Jesus Christ.
On Easter we celebrate the rising of Jesus from the dead. He bring us hope and he destroys death forever. He opened the gates of heaven for us. He is the Incarnate God becoming flesh. As we read in the bible, the Romans did not want to hear of the Incarnate Son of God because it would upturn their belief about the emperor being god. Those who did not believe in the Son of God were foolish that day because God sent His only Son to bring salvation to humankind which Adam and Eve threw away through their disobedience. Let us always pray for a deeper faith in Jesus Christ.
