I love the phrase which was used at the Archdiocesan Stewardship meeting, “What if you only had today what you gave thanks to God for yesterday?” Lent is our time to go to the desert to strip away some of the distractions of our lives. Penance and mortification are so often the means to arrive at a deeper sense of God in our lives.
How much do we take for granted? When I hear of someone whom I know and their life is changing because of sickness or a change in their life, I think about how blessed I am to live as I am living.
I have been told that sometimes we do not appreciate some people well enough in our life until you lose them. It is a sad commentary to realize that. Do not forget to thank the Lord for those loved ones in your life! Do not forget to say to them, “I love you,” either.
