BAPTISM is a very important sacrament in the life of Catholic Christians.
John 3:5 says Jesus answered,
“Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.”
Catechesis is the act of handing on the Word of God intended to inform the faith community and candidates for initiation into the Church about the teachings of Christ, transmitted by the Apostles to the Church. Catechesis also involves the lifelong effort of forming people into witnesses to Christ and opening their hearts to the spiritual transformation given by the Holy Spirit.
Given the importance of Baptism, there is definitely an importance on instruction for Baptism. For adults we have the Rite of Christian Initiation which is several months of catechesis. For infants and children under 7 we have had a one night class. After some discussion with Fr. Buehler, I have decided to institute a new Baptism Instruction Program. It will be done on an individual basis with each family. This way it can be personalized to where they are on their own personal journey of faith with the Lord. This will be done in the home of the family and then their home will also be blessed at the same time.
When a parishioner parent of a new child would like their child baptized, they will call the parish office for Baptismal Instruction. The information will be given to one of the priests or deacon to contact them for setting up an appointment. Thus, this will provide a better and more personal approach to Baptism Instruction.
