Liturgical Ministries
For your convenience, all Liturgical MINISTRIES' information is on this page

When the faithful of our parish gather, we become a visible sign of the Body of Christ. During this "sacrament of unity," the whole Body of the Church is involved in many different ways.
Many of the important liturgical functions of our celebrations are delegated to the laity, who are drawn from the community, trained by the parish, and entrusted with the sincere devotion and decorum expected of them by God's people. Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, Altar servers, Ministers of Hospitality [Ushers and Greeters], and Music Ministers all exercise a genuine liturgical function and are integral to our celebrations.
Lay ministers foster the mission of Christ that flows from baptism and put their gifts at the disposal of the community for the common good and in response to specific needs.
Saint Francis Borgia is blessed to have many dedicated, competent men, women, and children who generously share the gifts entrusted to them by the Holy Spirit to serve the People of God.
When people with particular qualities are matched with the liturgical roles that call for those qualities, the liturgy can speak powerfully to us, moving us to prayer.
Liturgy Commission
The Liturgy Commission oversees the planning and coordination of all the ministries involved in our parish worship.
If you have questions concerning the Liturgy Commission or an interest in serving in some capacity, please contact:

Lector Ministry
The mission of the Lector Ministry is to proclaim the Scripture at Mass. Those participating in this ministry should be motivated by spiritual reasons: desire to proclaim the Word of God so that people listen and understand. Lectors prepare before each assignment. Helpful skills include public speaking ability and a willingness to respond to suggestions for improvement.
Scheduling is based on lector time preferences and availability. Adults and high school youth are welcome. Training and mentoring are provided. Adult lectors participate in 1-2 formation opportunities each calendar year.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are lay members of the parish who assist in the distribution of Holy Communion. Some extraordinary ministers assist with Communion at Mass; others take the Eucharist to area nursing home and care facilities, to the sick and shut-ins at home.
This ministry is for young adults ( minimum age of 18 years) through adults who have been confirmed. We ask for a commitment of at least one weekend Mass per month for those who participate in this ministry. Training and mentoring are provided. We request that those participating in this ministry attend 1-2 formation opportunities each year. This is a wonderful opportunity to share the body and blood of Christ with your fellow parishioners.

Altar Servers
From the Pen of Fr. Tim.
For our young people, we have set up an automated signup for a new Mass Server.
There will be a permanent QR code in the bulletin as well as in the vestibule of the
Church. I have spoken to several people in the schools, and we are willing to offer
service hours capped at two service hours for Sunday Masses. We grant a third
service hour if you serve a Christmas/Triduum/Easter Mass.
Since so many of you have such a large number of commitments, we felt this
It was the best way to allow scheduling.

This ministry provides members of the parish with a true opportunity to function as lay ministers by reverently assisting the celebrant and/or deacon during Sunday Mass, weekday Masses, and at special liturgies throughout the year. Altar Servers prepare the altar for Mass, light candles, join in procession, hold the Roman Missal for the priest, greet people with the sign of peace, and give other help that is needed.
Youth Servers
All youth in our parish, second semester fifth graders and above, are invited to become servers. They must have received First Eucharist. There is no upper age limit for servers.
Youth servers will be assigned to Sunday Liturgies: 4:30 pm on Saturdays, 9:00 & 11:00 am Masses on Sunday.

Ushers and Greeters
Being a welcoming community is very important to us. Ushers are the first face of the parish. They greet warmly those coming into our church, help people sit together, offer assistance to those in need, take up the collection, help with good order at communion and distribute bulletins and such in the course of saying goodbye to everyone. Ushers will also invite a family at each Mass to be the Gift Bearers in our Eucharistic celebration.

Music Ministry
Hallelujah!
Sing to the Lord a new song, a hymn in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
the people of Zion rejoice in their king.
Let them praise his name in festive dance,
make music with tambourine and lyre.
Psalm 149: 1-3
Whether by the use of instruments, song, or dance, music is a very vital means of praising God. Music transforms our prayer into a higher form and helps unite the congregation in one voice of praise and celebration. We are blessed at Saint Francis Borgia to have a rich tradition of choral music in our Liturgies, and it continues to grow . Our parish offers several opportunities for those interested in serving in this important ministry.
As you consider your gifts of time and talent, please think about joining our choir family. You don't have to be a great musician to join the choir – we help you develop your talents at every rehearsal in a loving and encouraging environment. Singing the Mass as part of a choir family is a wonderful and profound experience – please come and see for yourself!

Let Us Sing!
Adult Choir
The Adult Choir at Saint Francis Borgia is an active and thriving group of singers. There are over 40 members in the choir, singing soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. No auditions are necessary, just a willingness to participate in the liturgy's sung prayer.
The Adult Choir meets on most Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Choir Room of Jesuit Hall. The Choir is open to adults and high school students who enjoy singing and fellowship.
The choir sings at the 10:00 AM Sunday morning Mass and is also an integral part of the Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter seasons.
Youth Choir
The children’s choir is open for children in grades 3-8 in both the day school and PSR programs with weekly rehearsals, currently on Wednesdays, from 3:15 - 4:00 pm in the Choir Room of Jesuit Hall. Being part of the Children's Choir provides an opportunity for the children to develop an appreciation for music, share their talents, and learn to work together to make beautiful music.
This choir periodically sings at weekend Masses and some special liturgies.
Resurrection Choir
The Resurrection Choir at Saint Francis Borgia is a group of men and women who have flexibility in their schedules and sing at many of the funerals in our parish. The members gather about 15 minutes before the funeral liturgy.
Their main purpose is to lead the assembly in singing at the Funeral Mass and to perform the spiritual and corporal works of mercy of praying for and burying the dead.
Cantor
Cantors lead the singing at the Saturday 4:30 pm Mass, and the 7:00 am and some 11:00 am Sunday Masses. Cantors are assigned to Masses as befits their schedule and are accompanied by piano or organ. Rehearsals with accompanists are immediately preceding Masses. You may be asked to serve alone or with a duet or trio.
If you have a vocal talent that you would like to share, then being a cantor may be for you. Cantors are asked to attend occasional Archdiocesan Music Office Cantor Workshops held throughout the diocese.
Please contact Lucy Tobben if you are interested in serving our parish in this ministry.
Church Environment
The Church Environment Ministry enriches our worship space to reflect the liturgical seasons of the Church year: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, the Triduum, Easter and Pentecost. Adult volunteers help provide an inspirational setting with flowers, banners, etc. You can choose to help maintain the plants and décor on a weekly schedule. Or you can also choose to decorate for the major church seasons at Christmas and Easter.
If you have a passion and creativity for any of these areas, we welcome you to join us. For more information, please contact:

Heavenly Dusters
Church dusters keep our church dust-free and looking good year round. No heavy cleaning is required. Dusters are adults; youth may assist their parents. The "Heavenly Dusters" meet on Monday Mornings after the 7:00 AM Mass to clean the church. If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact:
